6 mana for a 5/5 flying creature may seem a bit too much, but his trigged ability has made many opponents reluctant to attack.
Pair this with the legend rule and you have, in effect, a reset card that will leave flying creatures standing.
A little expensive when compared to wrath of god, but you can abuse it so well.
Not essential, but worth the effort.
